materials on the 1821 Whiteboy Raid on the Askeaton Tithe Proctor. Our
Terence MORAN, the leader, was mortally wounded. His brother Michael was
one of three captured. They were forced to dig the “croppy hole” in which
the dead were buried and then stood trial. Michael was acquitted but the
other two were convicted and hung. This event led to the Irish rising in
west Limerick and assassinating the local
constable Major Going.
